Damascus, June 2 (SANA) Syrian Finance Minister Mohammed Yisr Barnieh said on Tuesday that Syria’s economic future depends on a strong partnership between the public and private sectors.
Speaking during the second day of the Syrian Private Sector Dialogue 2026 in Damascus, Barnieh said the challenges of the past decade had affected economic and service sectors but also demonstrated the resilience of the Syrian people and the private sector’s role in sustaining production.
He said the private sector would play a leading role in driving economic growth, attracting investment and creating jobs as Syria advances its recovery efforts.
Barnieh highlighted the Ministry of Finance’s 2026–2030 Transformation Strategy, which aims to support economic and financial stability, improve the business environment, empower the private sector and strengthen partnerships with investors.
He also highlighted ongoing tax reforms aimed at enhancing fairness and transparency, saying cooperation with international financial institutions reflects growing confidence in Syria’s economy and supports reconstruction and development efforts.
The conference, organized by the Ministry of Economy and Industry in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Government of Japan, runs through June 3 and brings together government officials, business leaders and development partners to discuss economic recovery and private-sector growth.
