Damascus, April 23 (SANA) Syria’s Drug Enforcement Administration units thwarted an attempt to smuggle a shipment of narcotics concealed inside tires on a passenger bus traveling along the Homs–Hama international highway, the Interior Ministry said.
The ministry said the operation followed surveillance and tracking, with security forces setting up an ambush that led to the interception of the vehicle and the arrest of the driver and his assistant.
“In a thorough search of the bus, the narcotics were found concealed inside tires stored in the cargo compartment in an effort to evade detection,” the ministry said in a statement.
Authorities seized about 335,294 captagon pills and identified key individuals involved in the operation, ranging from tire suppliers to those who organized the shipment, it added.
The ministry said the suspects have been referred to the relevant authorities to complete investigations and take necessary legal measures.
The operation is part of ongoing efforts by security forces to combat drug trafficking and enhance public safety in line with applicable laws and regulations.
