Damascus, April 21 (SANA) Defense Minister Maj. Gen. Murhaf Abu Qasra held talks in Damascus with a U.S. military delegation led by Maj. Gen. Kevin J. Lambert, commander of the Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve.
The meeting was attended by Syria’s General Intelligence Chief Hussein al-Salama.
Discussions focused on the latest developments in the region and ways to enhance relations and cooperation between the two sides across various military fields.
The talks come amid recent developments in Syrian-U.S. relations. On April 16, Syria’s Foreign Ministry welcomed the transfer of military sites previously operated by U.S. forces to the Syrian government, describing the move as a step toward restoring state control over all territory.
The remarks came after the Ministry of Defense took control of Qasrak Air Base in the Hasakah countryside, the last base to be handed over to the Syrian Army.
The ministry said the handover was carried out in coordination between the Syrian and U.S. governments, reflecting improving relations between Damascus and Washington following the meeting between President Ahmad al-Sharaa and U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House in October 2025.
