Latakia, April 20 (SANA) The Ministry of Interior announced that its units carried out two coordinated security operations on Monday morning in the village of Baabda in Jableh countryside, arresting a number of individuals involved in crimes during the deposed regime’s era.

The ministry said that among those detained was criminal Amer Youssef Suleiman al-Hassan, a former brigadier and field operations’ commander in the deposed regime’s State Security branch in Latakia, who held several positions, including Head of the State Security branch in Idlib since 2019.

The ministry added that it also arrested criminal Ghaith Mohammed Suleiman Shaheen, a former brigadier general who held the position of a tank brigade commander during the era of the deposed regime, noting that he had previously served in multiple military posts. The operations also targeted Colonel Nizar Shaheen Shaheen, identified as a former artillery and missile unit commander who committed war crimes, violations, and rapes against civilians in the city of al-Qusayr.

It stated that the operations led to the neutralization of Yamen Aref Shaheen after he resisted arrest and refused to surrender. During the operation, a member of the special operations unit was injured and later martyred.

The Ministry of Interior affirmed that efforts will continue to pursue individuals involved in past violations, stressing that legal procedures will continue in accordance with the law.
