Damascus, March 31 (SANA) Authorities said Tuesday they had arrested a former air force officer involved of leading armed groups linked to Air Force Intelligence during the rule of the deposed regime.

The Interior Ministry said in a statement published on its Telegram channel that the suspect, Suleiman Dioub, known as “al-Farra”, was detained in the Tal kalakh area of Homs province following an intelligence-based operation.

Dioub, a former lieutenant colonel in the air force under the former government, is accused of leading armed groups that operated in coordination with Air Force Intelligence, according to preliminary investigations.

The ministry added that the case also involves another individual, who was also involved in commanding armed groups operating under the intelligence service at the time.

Authorities said the suspect has been referred to the judiciary to face legal proceedings.
