Ankara, March 29 (SANA) Syrian Information Minister Hamza al-Mustafa stated that Syria has adopted multi-layered strategies to counter disinformation, emphasizing the vital importance of media and communication cooperation with Türkiye.
The minister’s remarks were made during his participation in the Stratcom Strategic Communications Summit 2026, held under the theme: “Disruption in the International Order: Crises, Narratives, and the Search for Order.”
In an interview with Anadolu Agency, al-Mustafa described the summit as a prestigious regional and international platform for transforming traditional media into effective communication tools. He stressed that strategic communication is a “pivotal pillar” for supporting local and global stability.
Furthermore, al-Mustafa noted that the summit facilitated an exchange of expertise among policymakers and media professionals on countering false narratives and promoting diplomacy. Amid escalating regional tensions, he highlighted the necessity of building “strong national narratives.”
Regarding relations with Türkiye, the minister revealed plans to develop coordination mechanisms in media and communication, noting that the current phase is witnessing a significant improvement in ties between Damascus and Ankara. This cooperation aims to address hate speech, fake accounts, and social media manipulation, drawing on Türkiye’s extensive expertise in these areas.
On the domestic front, al-Mustafa affirmed that the ministry has begun restructuring the media sector based on professionalism and objectivity. This includes opening the field to private, independent, and foreign media outlets to operate within Syria.
He expressed optimism that drawing on the experiences of neighboring countries—particularly Türkiye—will soon yield tangible results in the fight against disinformation.
