Damascus, March 25 (SANA)  Syrian military engineering units have carried out a field survey in Damascus’ Qaboun neighbourhood after receiving reports of the possible presence of war remnants that could obstruct ongoing infrastructure rehabilitation.

Ahmad Ghassan al-Haj, a commander in the army’s engineering corps, said engineering teams conducted detailed inspections to ensure the area was free of mines and other remnants of war. He said the site was declared safe for repair crews to continue their work.

He noted that engineering units have been conducting extensive sweeping operations in Qaboun and surrounding areas for nearly a year, successfully removing and dismantling numerous war remnants, including shells and unexploded bombs.

Al-Haj affirmed that the units continue working to fully secure the neighbourhood, facilitate infrastructure rehabilitation, and ensure the safety of residents and service crews operating in the area.

Qaboun was among the Damascus neighbourhoods that suffered systematic destruction of residential buildings and infrastructure during the years of war, leaving behind large quantities of unexploded ordnance. Specialized teams continue to work on clearing these remnants to secure the area and create the conditions necessary for reconstruction and the safe return of civilians.
