Damascus, Mar.12 (SANA) The National Commission for the Missing in Syria announced on Wednesday that it responded to two reports received on 4 March 2026 concerning suspected mass grave sites.
The first site is located in the Sheikh Saeed neighbourhood in Aleppo, while the second is in the al-Taman’a area in Idlib’s countryside. The response comes as part of ongoing national and humanitarian efforts to determine the fate of missing persons and safeguard the rights of victims and their families.
The Commission explained that the necessary measures were taken to secure both sites in coordination with the relevant authorities and Syrian Civil Defense teams, ensuring the preservation of remains and preventing any tampering.
It added that all procedures were carried out in accordance with safety requirements and established chain-of-custody standards.
The Commission urged citizens to avoid approaching or disturbing these sites and to immediately report any information or suspected cases through official channels, helping preserve evidence and ensure that documentation and investigative work proceed professionally and responsibly.
The Commission noted that several mass graves have been discovered in recent months across different parts of Syria, containing the remains of hundreds of individuals who perished due to the practices of the deposed regime and its allies during the years of the war.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights has documented nearly 177,000 cases of enforced disappearance since March 2011.
