Lattakia, March 11 (SANA) Syrian academic Dr. Rula Aliou, a lecturer at the Faculty of Nursing at Tishreen University in Lattakia, has been shortlisted for the international BMG Award, which recognizes leading healthcare innovators worldwide.
Aliou is among six finalists globally in the “Compassionate Health Leadership” category of the award, which highlights the top 30 healthcare developers for 2026.
The award is organized by the British Medical Group (BMG) in London in cooperation with the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) based in Boston.
Aliou said the recognition followed an international nomination process evaluated by a panel of experts from several countries, including Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.
Her nomination was supported by several initiatives in healthcare education and leadership development. Among them is a project aimed at strengthening a culture of quality and accreditation at Tishreen University’s Faculty of Nursing. The program included training student leaders in communication, leadership, emotional intelligence and strategic thinking.
Aliou has also led research initiatives focused on health leadership and the use of artificial intelligence in healthcare management.
Another project, titled “Al-Tuma’nina” (Reassurance), seeks to create a psychologically safe learning environment for students in healthcare education.
She said the healthcare and nursing sectors face growing challenges and require stronger workplace support systems for medical staff, as well as greater emphasis on learning from unintended errors and incorporating compassionate leadership into health education curricula.
Online voting for the award is scheduled to open on March 10 through the official website of the International Forum on Quality and Safety in Healthcare.
The winners will be announced during an international conference in Oslo, Norway, expected to bring together thousands of healthcare experts and specialists from more than 80 countries.
The BMG award honors healthcare leaders and initiatives that contribute to improving the quality of medical services and promoting compassionate practices in healthcare institutions worldwide.
