Damascus, March 2 (SANA) Syria has reduced electricity supply hours due to a decline in natural gas imports from Jordan used to operate power plants, the Energy Ministry said on Sunday.
In a statement, the ministry said gas flows had at times been halted because of ongoing regional escalation, temporarily preventing supplies from continuing under previously agreed arrangements.
The ministry described the disruption as the result of external factors and said technical teams were managing the power grid using available domestic gas production.
Electricity distribution is being scheduled based on current capacity to maintain grid stability and ensure continued operation, the statement said.
The ministry added that efforts are under way to increase local gas production in parallel, with the aim of supporting the power system and improving electricity supply in the coming period.
