Damascus, Feb. 26 (SANA) Deputy Interior Minister Major General Abdul Qader Tahan received a delegation from the UK Embassy on Thursday, headed by the Special Envoy for Syria, Ann Snow, to discuss enhancing security cooperation between the two countries.
According to a statement by the Interior Ministry, discussions covered counterterrorism, institutional capacity-building programs and support for the security sector, with emphasis on the UK’s role in international efforts supporting Syria.
The two sides also discussed the situation in northeastern Syria, developments in Sweida province and challenges related to displaced persons’ camps and detention centers, the statement said. Talks also covered Syria’s plans regarding foreign nationals and efforts to address the humanitarian and security implications in line with international standards.
The Syrian government is working to expand cooperation with partner countries to strengthen its capacity to address security challenges left by the deposed regime, particularly counterterrorism and drug trafficking.
