Damascus, Feb. 17 (SANA) Syria’s Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management, Raed al-Saleh, met on Monday with officials from Türkiye’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) and the Turkish Red Crescent to discuss enhancing institutional cooperation and reviewing a proposed agreement on joint operations.
During the meeting in Damascus, the minister discussed with AFAD Deputy Head Hamza Taşdilan and Alper Küçük, Secretary General for International Affairs and Migration Services at the Turkish Red Crescent, the establishment of an operations center at the Bab al-Hawa border crossing following completion of the necessary legal procedures.
The talks also covered closer cooperation in demining, the use of Turkish expertise to modernize seismic monitoring systems and data exchange, coordination of humanitarian efforts, support for the 2026–2027 recovery plan, and creating conditions for the safe return of displaced people.
A delegation from the Syrian Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management visited Türkiye in early September to strengthen cooperation in disaster management, seismic monitoring and wildfire response.
