Tartous, Feb. 9 (SANA) – The Internal Security Department in Tartous thwarted an attempt to smuggle a shipment of scorpion venom and zanzibar (mercury sulfide, HgS) abroad, arresting 11 individuals involved in the operation.
The department said in a statement on Monday that the operation was carried out based on reliable information, field monitoring and careful surveillance by the department units led to the arrest of all network members and the seizure of the hazardous substances in their possession.
Scorpion venom and zanzibar are considered highly dangerous due to their toxic properties and direct effects on human health and the environment, in addition to their potential use in illegal activities that threaten public safety and security.
The seized materials were confiscated in accordance with the law, and those arrested were referred to the competent judiciary to take the necessary legal measures against them.
