Damascus, Feb. 7 (SANA) – Saudi Arabia has been named Guest of Honor at the Damascus International Book Fair, presenting a major cultural showcase that underscores its role in the Arab literary scene and highlights the kingdom’s cultural heritage.
The Saudi pavilion features a wide range of literary, intellectual, and historical publications, alongside exhibits of manuscripts, archaeological replicas, and traditional costumes. Visitors can explore the cultural diversity of Saudi regions, from traditional lifestyles and architecture to contemporary artistic expressions.
Architecture is a central focus, with displays tracing Saudi construction from clay and adobe structures to modern urban designs. The pavilion uses interactive visuals to illustrate how Saudi cities blend heritage preservation with modern development.
The fair also features seminars, poetry evenings, and traditional performance arts, offering visitors an immersive experience of Saudi culture. Organizers say these activities encourage dialogue and engagement, emphasizing that culture is a living, participatory practice rather than just static exhibits.
The pavilion has drawn strong public interest, with visitors praising its organization and variety. Architecture student Lana Qaddah noted the opportunity to compare Saudi and Syrian architectural practices, while other visitors highlighted the chance to explore previously unavailable books and learn about Saudi social history and heritage.
Saudi Arabia’s participation reflects its ongoing commitment to supporting literature, publishing, and translation in the Arab world, fostering cultural exchange, and promoting dialogue across the region.
The pavilion positions the Damascus Book Fair as a platform for reconnecting readers with Arab literary and cultural traditions while celebrating the diversity and unity of Arab culture.
