Damascus, March 28 (SANA) – Syria’s national committee investigating Sweida incidents of June 2025 said its findings broadly align with those of the Independent International Commission of Inquiry, stressing the need to turn conclusions into concrete legal measures to ensure accountability.
Committee spokesperson Ammar Ezzeddine said the body had reviewed the international report issued on Friday on the July 2025 incidents in Sweida province, praising efforts to document serious violations and the suffering of victims.
Ezzeddine noted that the international report welcomed the formation of the Syrian committee and referred to a meeting held last September to exchange expertise on independent investigations.
He said the two reports show broad convergence on key findings, including the scale of humanitarian suffering and the documentation of serious violations, underscoring the need for legal accountability for those responsible.
The spokesperson said the next phase requires turning the findings into practical legal steps to hold perpetrators accountable and deliver justice for victims.
He added that establishing the truth transparently is essential for advancing justice and reconciliation and preventing further violations, stressing that the principle of non-impunity must remain central during Syria’s transitional period.
Earlier, the Foreign and Expatriates Ministry welcomed the international report, saying the Syrian government had handled the developments with “the highest degree of responsibility and transparency.”
