Damascus, Jan. 22 (SANA) The Internal Security Command in the Damascus Countryside, in cooperation with the Counter-Terrorism Department, arrested the criminal former Brigadier General Rateb Ali Ghanem, who served as Assistant Head of the Sa’sa Security Branch from 2010 to 2014 under the deposed regime.
The Ministry of Interior said on its Telegram channel that initial investigations revealed that Ghanem held multiple security positions, including Head of the Military Security Branch in Hasakah, before becoming Assistant Head of the Sa’sa Branch. He was directly appointed to these posts by criminal Bashar al-Assad.
The ministry added that during this period, Ghanem was involved in suppressing demonstrations, arresting large numbers of citizens, and engaging in repressive measures, including violations of fundamental rights and freedoms.
The ministry said he has been transferred to the Counter-Terrorism Directorate to complete investigations before being referred to the competent judiciary.
