Guterres stresses commitment to ceasefire and Syrian–SDF agreement

New York, Jan 22 (SANA) UN Secretary-General António Guterres stressed the importance of adhering to the ceasefire and implementing the recent understanding between the Syrian state and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), affirming the need to maintain de-escalation and ensure the safety of civilians.

“The UN Secretary-General urges all parties to maintain de-escalation, respect the ceasefire, and implement the details of the recent understanding without delay and in a spirit of compromise.” According to UN News, Deputy Spokesman Farhan Haq said during Wednesday’s press briefing.

Haq noted that the UN is closely monitoring developments on the ground in Syria, reiterating that the protection of civilians must remain a top priority, in line with the principles of full respect for the rights and dignity of all communities.

He added that it is everyone’s responsibility to avoid actions that could endanger civilian lives, escalate tensions, or trigger new waves of displacement, stressing the need to act responsibly to ensure stability.
