Damascus, Jan.20 (SANA) Ministry of Defense Spokesman Brigadier General Hassan Abdul Ghani affirmed that the ministry is proceeding with a high sense of national responsibility and a sincere commitment to prevent bloodshed and to build a peaceful solution that preserves the country’s unity, security and stability.
In a statement issued on Tuesday on the latest developments in northeastern Syria, Abdel Ghani addressed Syria’s Kurdish citizens, describing them as an integral and inseparable part of the Syrian people.
“We defend our people and are ready to sacrifice our lives for them. We have pledged to protect our Kurdish citizens, safeguard their property and secure everything necessary for them to remain safe and dignified in their homes, proud of themselves and of their homeland, Syria,” he said.
Abdel Ghani added that Syria’s Kurds had suffered grave injustice for five decades, having been deprived of their rights and subjected to systematic exclusion policies that affected their presence and identity.
“Based on our conviction that an era of justice must begin by restoring rights to the oppressed, Presidential Decree No. 13, issued days ago by President Ahmad al-Sharaa, represents a clear step confirming that the new Syria embraces all its citizens and restores rights to their rightful owners without discrimination or exclusion,” he said.
Abdel Ghani reaffirmed that the Syrian state has been, and remains, in direct confrontation with the Daesh terrorist organization, noting that the government had previously declared its full readiness to take over all detention facilities in the region and transfer them to the Ministry of Interior.
In his statement, Abdel Ghani called on the SDF to abide by the provisions of the January 18 agreement and the agreed ceasefire timeframe, warning against targeting the Syrian army or internal security forces.
