Damascus, Jan. 11 (SANA) Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ibrahim al-Olabi, stated that the UN delegation’s visit to Quneitra Governorate on Saturday was successful and sent a clear message that this land belongs to Syria. He noted that the delegation was able to document Israeli violations, convey the concerns of affected residents to the international community, and develop practical mechanisms to address issues related to detainees and damaged property.
In an interview with “al-Ikhbariya” TV, al-Olabi explained that the UN delegation met with residents and listened to their concerns, including recurring Israeli violations such as abductions, land razing, and property infringements. He emphasized that the visit reflects Syria’s commitment to protecting the rights of its citizens and strengthening the state’s role internationally.
Al-Olabi added that the practical aspect of the visit included formulating new ideas and mechanisms to deal with Israeli violations, including the cases of Syrian detainees and abductees, assessing material damage caused by these acts, holding the occupation legally accountable, and activating relevant international mechanisms.
The Syrian Permanent Representative stressed that the Syrian state has never and will never relinquish any part of its territory, and that any Israeli presence in these areas constitutes illegal occupation. He pointed out that the UN visit to Quneitra clearly demonstrated this reality and highlighted the Syrian government’s commitment to protecting its citizens, providing them support, and reinforcing the state’s political and humanitarian role internationally.
Al-Olabi noted that Syrian diplomatic efforts have strengthened the Golan file at the UN Security Council, emphasizing the implementation of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement. He added that Syria’s diplomatic achievements have been recognized in New York, with ambassadors and the international community acknowledging Syria’s accomplishments, which reflect a stable domestic situation and strong institutions, enhancing global respect for Syria’s positions and its ability to defend the rights of its citizens and territory.
The visit included meetings with the UN Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, with Quneitra Governorate officials, community leaders, and residents affected by Israeli violations. The delegation also inspected the field and humanitarian conditions in the region.
