President al-Sharaa discusses joint cooperation with the French president

President al-Sharaa discusses joint cooperation with the French president

Damascus, Jan. 9 (SANA) President Ahmad al-Sharaa held a phone call on Friday with French President Emmanuel Macron, during which they discussed prospects for bilateral cooperation and the latest developments in Syria and the region.

The call came within the framework of the diplomatic openness pursued by the Syrian state to strengthen its presence and standing on the international stage.

President al-Sharaa expressed the Syrian Arab Republic’s gratitude to France for its role in supporting the path toward stability, commending French efforts aimed at fostering national integration and extending Syrian state sovereignty over all its territory, in addition to positions that contribute to alleviating humanitarian suffering and supporting early recovery.

Regarding developments on the ground in Syria, President al-Sharaa briefed his French counterpart on the efforts undertaken by the Syrian state in the city of Aleppo, affirming that protecting civilians and securing the city’s surroundings constitute a top priority to ensure the return of normal life.

President al-Sharaa stressed the national and sovereign role of the state in protecting all Syrians of various components, foremost among them the authentic Kurdish component, as an integral part of the national fabric and a key partner in building Syria’s future.

For his part, the French President reaffirmed his country’s commitment to supporting Syria’s unity and sovereignty, underscoring the importance of continued bilateral coordination and consultation, and backing the Syrian state’s efforts to entrench stability and extend the rule of law.
