Interior Ministry Spokesperson: Coastal incidents handled professionally under the law

Damascus, Dec. 29 (SANA) Interior Ministry spokesperson Nour Al-Din Al-Baba affirmed that the assaults carried out by remnants of the former regime against peaceful demonstrators in Lattakia and Tartous reveal the true nature of these groups and represent a victory for the values of the Syrian revolution, which was founded on rejecting repression and violence.

In an interview with Syrian Al-Ikhbariya TV, Al-Baba said that internal security forces are handling developments with a high degree of discipline, responsibility, and integrity.

He noted that the protests witnessed in some areas were the result of separatist calls aimed at destabilizing the situation and stirring chaos.

Al-Baba stressed that the use of firearms is limited to confronting remnants of the former regime who target security forces, the army, and civilians. He emphasized that these groups are attempting to exploit street movements to achieve political gains through blackmail and pressure, which will not succeed.

He pointed out that the former regime deprived Syria’s coastal region of basic services for many years and turned its people into fuel for its repressive projects. He noted that current events are being driven by specific figures seeking to harm the residents of the coastal area and the Syrian people as a whole.

The Interior Ministry spokesperson added that the terrorist bombing targeting a mosque in Homs city was not directed at one specific community, but rather at multiple groups, in an attempt to undermine civil peace and sow discord among Syrians.

“Bashar al-Assad has fallen, and with him the sectarian rule has collapsed; time will not turn back,” Al-Baba stated.

He affirmed that the Ministry of Interior bases its work on the principles of the Syrian revolution and the rule of law, continuing to carry out its duties with professionalism and responsibility in addressing various events.
