Internal Security Forces attacked by gunmen during protests in Lattakia and Jableh

Lattakia, Dec. 28 (SANA) The Head of Internal Security in Lattakia Governorate in western Syria, Brigadier General Abdul Aziz al-Ahmad, announced Sunday that internal security forces were attacked during demonstrations in the cities of Lattakia and Jableh.

Al-Ahmad stated that the attacks were carried out by armed terrorist elements affiliated with remnants of the former regime during protests called for by the so-called sheikh Ghazal Ghazal. The assaults resulted in injuries to several internal security personnel and caused damage to vehicles belonging to special operations units and the police.

He added that security forces observed the presence of masked and armed individuals at key protest locations, including al-Azhari Roundabout in Lattakia and the National Hospital Roundabout in Jableh. These individuals were linked to terrorist groups known as “Saraya Dera‘ al-Sahel” and “Saraya al-Jawad,” which have been involved in prior acts of violence, including targeted killings and the detonation of explosive devices along the M1 highway.

He stated that the armed individuals fired shots into the air during the protests while internal security forces acted to contain the situation.
