“Sixth Ugarit Days” concludes in Paris

Paris, Dec. 13 (SANA) The “Sixth Ugarit Days” event concluded at the Institute of Civilizations at Collège de France in Paris, held over December 10 and 11, with notable attendance from academics, researchers, and scholars interested in Syrian archaeology.

The symposium, organized within the framework of Syrian French archaeological cooperation, provided a solid scientific platform to present the latest research and studies on the Ugarit (Ras Shamra) site and other Syrian archaeological locations, highlighting the pivotal role of this human heritage in understanding ancient civilizations.

The symposium featured a series of important lectures. Dr. Masoud Badawi, Director of Excavation and Archaeological Studies at the Directorate General of Antiquities and Museums, presented in depth insights on “Hydraulic Systems at Tell Tweini during the Bronze and Iron Ages,” shedding light on the engineering advancements of that era.

Dr. Khuzama Al Bahloul from the Lattakia Antiquities Department delivered a lecture titled “Hydraulic Elements in the Great Building of the Rest Area (Ugarit): Architectural and Functional Perspectives,” revealing new architectural and functional details at the site.

Archaeologist Mohammad al Hassan, Head of the Lattakia Antiquities Department, presented “Post Liberation Activities of the Lattakia Antiquities Department,” emphasizing ongoing protection and documentation efforts.

On the sidelines of the symposium, meetings were held with the French archaeological mission, during which both sides agreed to strengthen joint cooperation aimed at rehabilitating the Ugarit archaeological site and supporting the Directorate General of Antiquities and Museums in preparing and submitting a comprehensive file to register Ugarit on UNESCO’s World Heritage List,an important step toward global recognition of Ugarit’s value and the protection of its unique historical site.
