Rain helps contain wildfires in Syria’s Lattakia countryside

Heavy rainfall on Tuesday morning helped extinguish wildfires in the Ras al-Basit area of Lattakia countryside, which had erupted late the previous night.

According to the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management, the fire began after midnight on Monday in the Ras al-Basit region, amid poor weather conditions and strong winds. Syrian Civil Defense teams, along with forestry firefighting units, worked for more than seven hours to battle the blaze. They faced challenging conditions, including rapidly intensifying winds.

The ministry reported that the morning rain played a crucial role in putting out the fire. However, firefighting crews remain on-site to monitor the area and prevent any flare-ups.
