ISF command in latakia announced Monday that security units have arrested members of one of the most dangerous cells espousing ISIS ideology during a precision security operation in the al-Badrusiya area in northern Lattakia countryside.
The Commander of Internal Security in Latakia Governorate, Brigadier General Abdulaziz Hilal al-Ahmad, said in a statement published by the Ministry of Interior’s Telegram channel “following extensive monitoring and intelligence work, specialized units—working in coordination with the General Intelligence Directorate—launched a meticulously planned operation targeting an ISIS-linked cell that had been preparing to carry out terrorist attacks in the Syrian coastal region”.
“The cell’s members opened fire during the raid in an attempt to resist arrest, prompting an armed confrontation. All cell members were ultimately apprehended, with two of them neutralized after refusing to surrender. Authorities also seized a cache of weapons and various types of ammunition, while one intelligence officer sustained a serious injury during the operation” al-Ahmad added.
Brig. Gen. al-Ahmad affirmed that the Internal Security Command in Latakia remains committed to pursuing anyone who seeks to destabilize the security of citizens, stressing that any attempt to threaten the safety of the coastal region or support terrorist groups will be met with decisive and forceful action.
