Anti-narcotics units in Homs province have seized a vehicle carrying around 11 million Captagon pills smuggled from Lebanese territory, officials from the Ministry of Interior Affairs said in a written statement on Tuesday.
The shipment was intercepted in southern rural Homs, and both the drugs and the vehicle used in the operation were confiscated. The Ministry of Interior Affairs said investigations are underway to identify those involved and uncover the criminal networks linked to the smuggling attempt.
The Anti-Narcotics Directorate reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing drug traffickers and curbing the spread of narcotics, emphasizing ongoing efforts to protect public safety and social stability.
Captagon, an amphetamine-type stimulant, gained notoriety during the Syrian war, when it was reportedly used by Assad fighters to stay alert. In recent years, its production has expanded into a large regional industry, with international reports linking parts of the trade to networks connected to the Assad regime.
