Information Minister: Idleb was key to liberation, calls for support to rebuild

Information Minister Dr. Hamza al-Mustafa on Friday urged Syrians to back the newly launched “Loyalty to Idleb” campaign, calling the province “the loudest voice against injustice and tyranny” and a key driver of Syria’s liberation.

Posting on X, Dr. al-Mustafa described Idleb as one of the most marginalized provinces in modern Syrian history, not because of its location, but because of its political stance. “Idleb has long been the loudest voice in the face of injustice and tyranny,” he said.

Minister al-Mustafa noted the province’s role in resisting oppression since the 1960s, citing its major role during the 1980s uprising against Hafez al-Assad and its prominence in the early stages of the Syrian revolution. “This accumulation of struggle placed Idleb at the forefront of the governorates that embraced the revolution,” al-Mustafa said.

The minister asserted that Idleb organized more than 1,150 demonstrations in a single day in mid-2011, the largest number in Syria’s history, and remained the most consistent province in its daily protests until the end of 2012.

“Idleb has given and endured so much, and one day history will record that Syria was liberated from Idleb and will be united from it,” al-Mustafa said. “It is our duty to fulfill our promise to Idleb by supporting this campaign,” he concluded.

The “Loyalty to Idleb” campaign officially launched earlier Friday at the municipal stadium, aiming to raise funds for reconstruction and restoration of war-damaged areas.
