Turkey: Agreement to complete 30 km of Hejaz railway inside Syrian territory

Turkish Minister of transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloglu said that Turkey, Syria and Jordan agreed an agreement to complete of a missing 30-kilometer portion of the historic Hejaz Railway within Syrian territory, marking a significant step toward reviving the vital project and enhancing regional cooperation in the transport sector.

“With Turkey’s support, an agreement has been reached to complete the remaining 30 kilometers of the Hejaz Railway’s in Syria.” semi-state Anadolu News Agency quoted Mr. Uraloglu as saying.

He added that the step represents the beginning of a broader effort to restore the historic line, alongside key decisions made during a technical meeting for transport ministers from Syria, Turkey, and Jordan.

Uraloglu noted that’’ the Jordanian side will explore technical capabilities for maintaining, repairing, operating locomotives, and will assess the possibility of running its own trains on the Hejaz line all the way to Damascus.
