Damascus, SANA-The administration of the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus issued a clarification and apology regarding the recent incident in which a person filmed an inappropriate video inside the mosque’s courtyard and posted it on social media.

On its Telegram channel today, the Ministry of Endowments, said in a statement: “The Umayyad Mosque administration explained that on July 31, an individual arrived at the mosque to collect a number of copies of the Quran. The mosque administration allowed him to park his car outside the mosque grounds to facilitate the loading process.

The statement indicated that, contrary to the purpose for which the vehicle was brought in, the aforementioned individual drove his vehicle around the courtyard, filmed a video, and posted it on social media in an inappropriate manner that was inconsistent with the sanctity and status of the mosque.

The Umayyad Mosque administration expressed its regret over this incident, stressing that it will hold accountable the employees responsible for allowing the vehicle to enter without the mosque administration’s permission and will contact the relevant authorities to take the necessary legal action against the person who posted the video.

The administration affirmed its constant commitment to preserving the sanctity of the Umayyad Mosque and maintaining its sanctity, and will take all necessary measures to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
