The Central Bank denies giving license to any new banks in Syria

11 August، 2025

Damascus, SANA-The Central Bank of Syria (CBS) denied Monday reports about establishing new banks in Syria, stressing that no licenses had been issued for any new banks in the country.

The CBS said in a statement published on its Telegram channel: “Referring to the news circulated about establishment of new private banks, the Central Bank of Syria indicates that no license has been issued for any new banks in Syria”.

The bank explained that “several Arab and foreign banks have expressed interest in entering the Syrian banking market to benefit from important investment opportunities related to reconstruction and new investment projects”.

The CBS said that establishing new private banks in Syria needs certain measures and to be recorded in the CBS banks’ book, and warned against any misleading or false advertisements about establishing or licensing new banks.
