A Syrian-European partnership to accelerate digital transformation and boost the economy

Damascus, SANA – Minister of Communications and Information Technology Abdul Salam Haykal discussed Thursday with the European Union Ambassador to Syria prospects for enhancing technical cooperation and developing the country’s digital infrastructure.

During the meeting, held at the ministry’s headquarters, the minister reviewed the vital projects the ministry is working on, most notably the “Silk Link” project, which aims to transform Syria into a strategic transit point for data traffic between Asia and Europe.

Minister Haykal also highlighted the “Barq” project, which aims to provide high-speed internet service to citizens and institutions, contributing to improving the quality of life and accelerating the pace of digital development in various regions.

For his part, the European Ambassador welcomed Syria’s move toward digitization, affirming the European Union’s readiness to provide technical and logistical support and share European expertise, considering that Syria represents a promising environment for investment and development partnerships in the communications and technology sector.
