Trump is accelerating steps to lift sanctions on Syria to achieve stability, says Jeffrey

New York, SANA-Former US Special Envoy for Syria, James Jeffrey, confirmed that the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump is making every effort to implement the decision to lift US sanctions on Syria.

In an interview with Al Arabiya Al-Hadath, Jeffrey said that Syria enjoys broad international support, including from the US, Turkey, Arab countries, and the UN, which places it in a good position to become a unified, stable, and prosperous state.

He added that President Trump views support for Syria and its success as a key factor for regional security and stability, and an opportunity to remove Iranian influence and its proxies from the region.

Jeffrey said that the Syrian people have suffered greatly over the past years, and that the US administration is working to gradually lift sanctions.

He expressed his satisfaction with the way President Ahmad al-Sharaa is handling national issues despite the challenges.
