Qatari Prime Minister: Lifting US sanctions on Syria is the right step forward

Doha, SANA- Qatari Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani said that lifting US sanctions on Syria is the right step forward.

“The Syrian people deserve to live a dignified life; sanctions were imposed primarily on the Assad regime in light of its behavior against its people. Now, if the sanctions remain as they are, how will we be able to help the Syrian people change their situation and emerge from the consequences of the war they have experienced over the past years… therefore, we believe that lifting the sanctions is the right step forward,” the Qatari Prime Minister added in an interview with the American news network CNN.

He added, “We must support Syria’s stability, and what we have heard and seen so far have been the right things,” calling for constructive engagement and efforts to help de-escalate the situation in Syria, and to ensure that “we work with them step by step.”
