UN: Israeli attacks on Syrian territory unacceptable

New York, SANA-The United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Middle East, Asia, and the Pacific, Khaled Khiari, said the international organization rejects the Israeli attacks on Syrian territory, noting that “Israel” plans to remain in Syria, which poses threat to its stability as this contradicts international agreements.

“Since the fall of the Assad regime last December, a number of reports have been submitted to the Security Council periodically regarding the 1974 Disengagement Agreement, and the Secretary-General has condemned actions that are inconsistent with this agreement, and there are hundreds of reports regarding Israeli attacks on Syria,” Khiari said Thursday during an emergency session of the Security Council regarding the Israeli attacks on Syria.

He recalled the presidential statement issued by the Security Council last month, which affirmed commitment to Syria’s sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity, and to refrain from taking any measures or interfering in Syria’s affairs that would destabilize the country, and the Council’s commitment to Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, noting that the opportunity for Syria’s stability after 14 years of war must be supported.
