Damascus, Dec. 10 (SANA) Syria is participating in the seventh session of the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA-7), held in Nairobi from Dec. 8–12 under the theme “Strengthening Sustainable Solutions for a Resilient Planet.”

The Syrian delegation, represented by Ahmad Sanda, advisor to the Minister of Local Administration and Environment, and Eng. Bilal al-Hayek, Director of Biodiversity, highlighted Syria’s key priorities including water management, climate adaptation, and pollution control.
Syria’s participation underscores the need to support countries facing overlapping pressures from environmental crises and conflict, and highlights that environmental justice and regional cooperation are essential for long-term resilience.
The five-day event will conclude with a high-level meeting expected to adopt about 18 environmental resolutions, issue a ministerial declaration, and endorse UNEP’s medium-term strategy for 2026–2029, along with its program of work and budget for the next two years.
