The Southern European Union countries’ summit, known as the “Med 9” group, held in Portorož, Slovenia, reaffirmed its support for the Syrian people and government in their efforts to rebuild Syria on a foundation that ensures its security, stability, unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
In a joint closing statement, participants emphasized the importance of a comprehensive political process that meets the aspirations of all Syrians and safeguards their rights, while stressing the need to intensify coordinated international efforts to create conditions conducive to the safe, voluntary, and sustainable return of Syrian refugees.
The summit also expressed support for the roadmap announced by Syria, Jordan, and the United States concerning Suwayda Governorate and the stabilization of southern Syria, appreciating Jordan’s role in resolving the crisis.
The Med 9 group consists of Croatia, Cyprus, France, Greece, Malta, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, and Italy, all countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea.
