Syrian American Council: Discussions in Damascus Focused on Lifting Sanctions

Washington, SANA – The Syrian American Council affirmed that its recent discussions in Damascus with President Ahmad al-Sharaa and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Asaad al-Shaibani centered on efforts to lift sanctions imposed on the Syrian people and to support Syria in safeguarding its sovereignty and national unity.

In a statement on the “X” platform, the Council expressed its heartfelt gratitude to President al-Sharaa and Minister al-Shaibani for their warm hospitality during the meeting, which was attended by council members representing various U.S. states.

The Council also announced its anticipation of welcoming President al-Sharaa and Minister al-Shaibani later this month in New York City, where they will participate in the agenda of the United Nations General Assembly.

During the Damascus meeting, President al-Sharaa received the Syrian American Council delegation in the presence of Minister al-Shaibani. He expressed appreciation for the sincere efforts of the Syrian community in the United States to support national causes and commended the Council’s initiatives aimed at lifting sanctions, fostering openness, and contributing to Syria’s reconstruction and development.
