Foreign Affairs announces provision of consular services to Syrians in Libya

The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs says its technical team, visiting Libya to resolve the legal status of Syrian citizens, will offer urgent consular services to help them. These services will be free until the Syrian Embassy in Libya opens soon.

The ministry explained via its Telegram channel that the services to be provided include:

1- Passport Extension:

  • The extension will be for one year only.
  • Applicant must bring an expired passport.
  • Applicant must be present in person or with a first-degree relative instead.

2- Issuing Laissez-passer (transit ticket excluding airfare):

  • Valid for one-time travel to Syria.
  • The document is valid for 60 days by land or air.
  • The applicants have to bring any official identification document identifying them (a birth certificate issued by the competent Libyan authorities may be accepted).
  • They must be present in person or a first-degree relative instead.
  • Two recent, identical passport-size photographs of the applicant for whom the ticket is to be issued.

3- Authentication of Official Documents:

  • They must be authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates in Syria or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Libya.

The Ministry stated that the delegation will begin its work at its temporary headquarters located at the Tripoli International Fairgrounds on Omar Al-Mukhtar Street on Friday, August 1, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Services will be provided on all remaining days from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

The Ministry emphasized that the technical delegation is committed to providing its services to citizens directly and without any intermediaries. It also does not have a website or office claiming to facilitate citizen transactions with the delegation.

In order to ensure the best possible services to citizens and to avoid overcrowding, the Ministry called for adherence to the following distribution:

Friday: For names beginning with the letters (أ-ب-ت-ث-ج)

Saturday: For names beginning with the letters (ح-خ-د-ذ-ر-ز)

Sunday: For names beginning with the letters  (س-ش-ص-ض-ط-ظ)

Monday: For names beginning with the letters  (ع-غ-ف-ق-ك)

Tuesday: For names beginning with the letters  (ل-م-ن-ه-و-ي)
