Rennes, Aug. 24 (SANA) Ferran Torres scored twice on his Paris Saint-Germain debut as the defending Ligue 1 champions came from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw at Rennes in their season opener Sunday.
Sebastian Szymanski put Rennes ahead in the ninth minute before Esteban Lepaul doubled the hosts’ advantage in the 38th.
PSG coach Luis Enrique introduced Torres at the start of the second half in place of Ousmane Dembélé. Torres, who scored Spain’s winning goal in last month’s World Cup final, reduced the deficit in the 71st minute after collecting a pass from fellow substitute Fabian Ruiz.
Torres struck again eight minutes from time, heading another Ruiz delivery past Rennes goalkeeper Brice Samba to level the score.
Rennes nearly regained the lead late in the match, but PSG defender Willian Pacho made a goal-line clearance to deny Ludovic Blas a winning goal.
The match was played at Rennes’ Roazhon Park after PSG’s Parc des Princes pitch was deemed unplayable. The club said extreme heat in Paris had severely damaged the playing surface.
