Tashkent, Aug. 13 (SANA) Syrian weightlifter Mohammed al-Kateb set three national records as he finished seventh in the 85-kg category at the Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Al-Kateb lifted 152 kg in the snatch and 181 kg in the clean and jerk, setting Syrian records in both disciplines. His combined total of 333 kg established a third national record.
The result marked a strong performance for the Syrian national team amid competition from some of Asia’s leading young weightlifters.
Syria’s Ali Munther Mohammad is scheduled to compete in the +110-kg category on Friday, with the Syrian team hoping to add a medal to its campaign.
Earlier in the championships, Syria’s Zeina Ali finished fifth in the girls’ 57-kg category after lifting 64 kg in the snatch and 77 kg in the clean and jerk.
