Washington, May 27 (SANA) Lionel Messi is expected to remain in Argentina’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup despite suffering a minor hamstring issue during Inter Miami’s latest MLS match, according to the club’s medical staff.
Medical tests showed the Argentina captain is dealing with muscle fatigue in the back of his thigh, but the injury is not expected to affect his participation in the tournament.
Messi was substituted after experiencing discomfort in Inter Miami’s match against Philadelphia, where he scored once and provided an assist.
The fitness concern comes less than two weeks before the start of the World Cup, with Argentina preparing to defend the title it won in 2022.
Argentina has been drawn in Group J alongside Algeria, Austria and Jordan.
