Iraq, UK discuss regional developments, Strait of Hormuz security

Baghdad, Aug. 7 (SANA) Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein discussed regional and international developments, navigation security in the Strait of Hormuz, and bilateral relations with UK Minister of State for Middle East Affairs Stephen Doughty during a phone call on Thursday, the Iraqi Foreign Ministry said.
 
According to a statement published on the ministry’s official website, the two sides discussed the economic repercussions of regional tensions and their impact on the global economy, inflation rates, and energy prices. They also exchanged views on ongoing efforts and talks aimed at halting military operations and ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
 
Hussein reviewed Iraq’s position regarding regional challenges, warning of the risks of military operations in the Strait of Hormuz extending to the Red Sea and Bab-el-Mandeb Strait, and the possible consequences for international navigation security and global trade.
 
The Iraqi foreign minister stressed the importance of supporting international efforts aimed at strengthening security and stability, reducing escalation, and protecting the global economy and regional security.
 
The two sides also discussed prospects for developing bilateral relations and strengthening joint cooperation in various fields serving the mutual interests of both countries.
