Washington, July 23 (SANA) The United States is continuing to work with the Syrian government as part of efforts to help build a strong and stable Syria capable of meeting the needs of its people, U.S. State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott said.
Speaking to Al Jazeera on Wednesday, Pigott said Washington’s ongoing discussions with Damascus focus on strengthening Syria’s ability to achieve internal stability, maintain peaceful relations with its neighbors and make tangible progress.
“The United States sees promising opportunities ahead for Syria,” Pigott said, adding that U.S. efforts aim to address existing challenges and support the country’s development.
Pigott also described the Kirkuk-Baniyas oil pipeline as a key project for regional energy security, saying Washington supports its revival as part of broader efforts to strengthen economic stability in the region.
Syria signed two memoranda of understanding on July 18 with Iraq and an international consortium of companies to revive the oil pipeline during meetings held in the United States.
On Lebanon, Pigott said the launch of the first pilot phase of implementing a trilateral framework agreement was a positive step. He added that strengthening the Lebanese government, enhancing its capabilities and reinforcing its sovereign authority are central to U.S. efforts and the agreement aimed at supporting Lebanon’s stability and sovereignty.
