Damascus, July 12 (SANA)    Canadian and Turkish ambassadors have welcomed the inaugural session of Syria’s newly elected People’s Assembly, describing it as an important milestone and a step toward restoring the sovereignty of the Syrian people.

Canadian Ambassador to Syria and Lebanon Gregory Galligan said the inaugural session represents an important milestone in Syria’s political transition, noting the responsibility now placed on the Assembly to debate and pass necessary legislation in the interests of all Syrians.

“Today’s inaugural session of Syria’s new People’s Assembly marks an important milestone in the country’s political transition. The Assembly now has the task of transparently debating and passing legislation to guide Syria’s transition in the interests of all Syrians,” Galligan said in a post on X.

Turkish Ambassador to Damascus Nuh Yılmaz congratulated the Syrian people on the opening of the People’s Assembly and the holding of its first session.

“Syria waited decades to restore the sovereignty of the people, paid with hundreds of thousands of lives, and hundreds of thousands spent their lives in prisons. Syria deserved this,” Yılmaz said in a post on X.

Suriye Halk Meclisi bugün açılıyor. Tüm Suriye halkını tebrik ederim. Suriye, halk egemenliğini yeniden kazanmak için onyıllarca bekledi, yüzbinlerce can verdi, yüzbinlerce insan zindanlarda ömür çürüttü. Suriye bunu fazlasıyla hak etti.
