Geneva, June 26 (SANA) Syria’s Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management, in partnership with R-SEAT and the Permanent Mission of Canada to the United Nations in Geneva, hosted a high-level roundtable on Syria’s recovery on Friday on the sidelines of the first Syria Mine Action Partners Conference.

The roundtable brought together ambassadors, U.N. officials, international partners, and civil society representatives to discuss support for Syria’s transition from emergency humanitarian response to recovery and sustainable development, according to the ministry.

Discussions focused on the government’s “Syria Without Camps” initiative, which aims to end long-term reliance on displacement camps by creating conditions for the safe, voluntary, dignified, and sustainable return of displaced people through community rehabilitation and livelihood support.

Participants stressed that mine action is a cornerstone of Syria’s recovery, noting that clearing landmines and explosive remnants of war is essential for enabling families to return home, children to resume their education, and farmers to cultivate their land. They also highlighted the central role of the Syrian National Mine Action Center in leading and coordinating national mine action efforts.
