Washington, May 31 (SANA) US President Donald Trump announced on Sunday the appointment of US Ambassador to Türkiye Tom Barrack as Special Presidential Envoy to Syria and Iraq, alongside his duties as ambassador to Ankara.
Trump said in a post on Truth Social that Barrack will continue his duties as ambassador to Türkiye while simultaneously assuming the position of Special Presidential Envoy to Syria and Iraq, noting that he will carry out his new role with full support from the US State Department.
The US president added that the United States will continue its efforts to enhance strategic cooperation with both Syria and Iraq, noting that bilateral relations between Washington and the two countries are experiencing continuous growth.
Trump expressed his appreciation for Barrack’s efforts and his readiness to serve his country, saying: “We greatly appreciate the work that Tom Barrack has done, and his continued willingness to serve our Country.”
Barrack was appointed US Ambassador to Türkiye in April 2025 and was tasked on May 23 of the same year with the duties of US Special Envoy to Syria.
