The Hague, May 8 (SANA) Syrian Justice Minister Mazhar al-Wais said Thursday that Syria was continuing efforts to pursue accountability for war crimes and strengthen policies aimed at preventing impunity, during participation in the Justice Matters conference held at the Peace Palace in The Hague.
The conference brought together ministers, legal experts and representatives of international and human rights organizations to discuss the role of justice in conflict prevention, peacebuilding and strengthening trust in state institutions, particularly in fragile and conflict-affected societies.
Speaking to SANA on the sidelines of the event, al-Wais said Syria had adopted a balanced approach combining justice and stability through measures aimed at ensuring accountability while supporting civil peace and inclusive citizenship.

“We came to this conference to affirm that the Syrian state is moving forward on the path of justice, pursuing those involved in war crimes, conducting public trials and reinforcing a policy of non-impunity,” al-Wais said.
He added that Syria was also seeking to strengthen social stability and expand dialogue with international actors involved in promoting the rule of law and judicial reform.
Al-Wais said meetings held on the sidelines of the conference reflected growing interest in Syria’s legal and judicial policies, as well as potential opportunities for cooperation and partnership in supporting judicial institutions and legal reform.
The Justice Matters conference, held in The Hague from May 6 to 8, focuses on the role of justice in sustaining peace and preventing conflict through strengthening legal frameworks and institutional accountability.
