Damascus, May 5 (SANA) Syria condemned the attack that targeted a United Arab Emirates tanker by Iranian drones while transiting the Strait of Hormuz, considering the attack a flagrant violation of freedom of international navigation and the rules of international law.
The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates warned in a statement issued on Monday that “this act of aggression jeopardizes regional security and stability as well as the safety of global trade routes”.
The Ministry affirmed, in its statement, “Syria’s full support for the United Arab Emirates in confronting this attack, and expressed its solidarity with the UAE”.
The ministry stressed the need for the international community to intervene to halt Iranian attacks that would further escalate tensions in the region. It also called for respect for the sovereignty of states and for ensuring the security of international maritime corridors, in a manner that safeguards regional and international stability.
