El-Sisi, Trump to Co-Chair Gaza Peace Summit in Egypt on October 13

Egypt’s Presidency announced on Sunday that Sharm El-Sheikh will host an international peace summit on Monday, co-chaired by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and U.S. President Donald Trump. Leaders from more than 20 nations are expected to attend.

In an official statement, the Presidency said the “Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit” aims to end the war in the Gaza Strip, advance efforts of peace building and stability across the Middle East, and open a new chapter of regional security and stability.

The statement added that the summit “aligns with President Trump’s vision for peace in the region and his ongoing efforts to resolve conflicts around the world.”

The announcement comes after a ceasefire agreement took effect in Gaza Strip on Friday, ending a 735-day Israeli war against Palestinians. The agreement is a part of a broader framework brokered by the US, Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey that brought a halt to the war that, according to Palestinian officials, killed more than 67,000 people.
