Damascus, April 26 (SANA) Syria condemned the shooting incident that targeted the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, which was attended by US President Donald Trump.
In a statement issued Sunday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates reaffirmed Syria’s categorical rejection of all forms of violence and expressed full solidarity with the government and people of the United States in the face of terrorist acts.
On Saturday evening, Trump and several senior administration officials were evacuated from the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner at the Hilton Hotel after gunfire was heard, causing panic and confusion inside the venue.
Hundreds of guests reportedly took cover under tables during the incident.
The US Secret Service later said the shooting occurred near the main security screening area for the event in the US capital and that one suspect had been detained.
